Mapping cognition to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic tools for human brain disease

Dr. Narayanan is from Seattle, and completed his undergrad at Stanford and a MD, PhD, and neurology residency at Yale prior to a faculty position at the University of Iowa from 2012-2026.

It was great to be a part of this mechanistic paper describing how dopamine modulates theta synchrony between the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Interestingly D1 and D2 agonists were not enough to recapitulate this effect, suggesting (surprise) that prefrontal dopamine is quite complex. This paper was from Rafa Ruggerio’s group on Brazil, and led by Benedito A de Oliveira-Junior and is now out in Cerebral Cortex: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42862860/
